The Cottage
Nestled within the heather-clad hills of the Pentlands, this architectural timber cottage blends into its surroundings. Original stone walls within the landscape complement the silvered timber cladding and surrounding trees.
Crafted from whitewashed wood panels, the light & airy double-height space takes on a Scandinavian feel. Light floods through the large glazed doors which also give stunning views to the hills. Splashes of colour enhance the uplifting but restrained décor through cosy throws and quirky furniture. An open-plan kitchen and ingenious folding dining table keep the space flexible and spacious.
Start your day with a hike into the heather clad hills on your doorstep. Embrace slow living and light the wood fired hot tub - This hot tub doesn't start at the touch of a button. It is simply Scottish spring water heated by wood harvested on the farm. The smoke curls out of the chimney, the stove crackles and fills the air with the smell of woodsmoke. Watch the sun set and the stars come out from the warmth of the wood heated water. Eastside is your perfect hideaway surrounded by our 3,000-acre hill farm.
The Woodshed has been commended in the Saltire Society's Housing Design Awards and featured in Dwell
Bedroom & Bathroom
Follow the staircase as it wraps around the stove and up onto the mezzanine floor. Here the comfiest of kingsize beds awaits you. Sink into crisp white linen, the most luxurious throw and beautiful cushions designed by a local artist. Fall asleep in perfect comfort listening to the crackle of the stove and the wind in the trees.
The ground floor bathroom is white-panelled with a beautiful slate rain shower. The polished concrete floor has underfloor heating throughout.
Outside
Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this unique self-catering cottage forms part of the beautifully developed Westside Farmstead.
The Pentland Hills are perfect for adventurous souls who seek spectacular hilltop vistas, tumbling waterfalls and heather glens. There is a pub a few miles ramble over the hills, but if you’re looking for the buzz of ‘city life’ Edinburgh is just a short drive away.
Practicalities
The Woodshed is off the beaten track, hidden in a quiet glen in the Pentlands. Access to the cottage is via a 1 mile farm track. The track is a little bumpy in places but, taken slowly shouldn't cause any problems for ordinary cars.
There is parking for one car beside the cottage (max. two). We live nextdoor and are on hand if you need us, but otherwise we'll not disturb your stay.
Because the cottage is 1 mile from the main road, we recommend the use of a car for the duration of your stay.
